Hi, my name is Gary Huston. I'm an ex-Farrier, (43 years at it!) Blacksmith, welder and general fabricator doing what I enjoy. I started out in 1978 with a four year Farriery apprenticeship, qualifying in 82, I stayed with my boss for a total of nine years before going solo. I now work out of a unit in Hertfordshire. It's a long while in a hard job so my body is starting to get a bit old and tired so I made the decision to stop shoeing in December 2021 just before major shoulder surgery. This channel is about me, mine and things I do. A combination of my job and my hobbies, always experimenting with new ideas and one off projects. Apart from blacksmithing and Farriery there are videos on metal detecting, my animals, cooking, motorcycles, product reviews and nature to name but a few. Please browse my videos and playlists as there is probably something in there to interest you.
If anything offends you on my channel, blame your parents for raising a pussy! 😂😂

I have been playing about with this cart design for a little while now, waiting for bits and pieces in between work! I finally think It's almost there, just the screen mount to make. There are lots of modifications I think I could make but I wanted to start fairly basic and see how it goes, if anything really bugs me I will modify it. For now I just want to get cutting which should be by the en...

We have had foxes in the garden almost every night for years but very rarely do we get a badger, well, last night we had a treat, three badgers! They have been coming in more frequently for the last couple of weeks, not sure if it's a new clan or an existing one moving further afield. Either way it's nice to see. Until of course they start digging the lawn up!! My Amazon pages with some of the ...

Thanks Gary for the review - I've just bought one today and I'm struggling to find the app on playstore - my mobile will not read the QR code in the manual - Trail Camera pro doesn't seem to be available? Appreciate your help!!
I use apple so can’t really help, I would email the company, they are quite good at responding quickly. They will probably be able to help.

you could try this one play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.git.trailcamerapro2&hl=en_US
Nice build, thks for share
No problem 👍
Nice Gary! I would love to get one of these. Hey, add an extra half inch to the diameter of your logo and use a ball peen to texture it. That would look amazing. (I may have to get you to have my shop logo done up) Cheers my friend.
I always thought you have to heat these. Thank you!
only if it's too big to do manually, if you have a big lathe you can twist large stock.
Wow ..nicely done.
Thanks a lot
Looks like it's going to work very well. You'll get it all figured out I'm sure
I'm sure, I've only been playing with it for a couple of hours and already learnt loads!
Hot Wheels just came out with the #79 Daytona '66 Triumph Tiger 100. Love seeing this stock version, sounds great!
Another uk user great Did you get yours from rob at xtreme plasma I did Your cut height is way to high Set it to 1.6mm
No, I didn't get it from Rob. I started with that height because that's what the manual for the cutter recommended. I have since lowered it to 1.7 and it cuts squarer.
Nice setup. Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for watching!
Hi Gary, becareful with water condensation under the tray. Just something to consider.
Gary, I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Are you thinking condensation could drop on the plasma cutter?
@@garyhuston Yes, Gary
@@garynordmann138 well I have already emptied the tray of water as the spray from the plasma air was really covering everything which I wasn’t happy with. I think I will just run it dry and use it by the open door.
@@garyhustonMy main worry was possibly damaging the plasma cutter, which then could possibly cause other problems. I take it the water in the pand is for cooling the cut parts? If that is the case then use a small pail with water and drop the cuttings into it. Just an idea.
@@garynordmann138 no, the water is to capture the mess from the cut and some of the fumes. It’s quite a messy process!
So amazing how far this technology has come.
Wow! That is so addictive to watch. Very interesting Gasry. I'm looking forward to seeing you do more with it.
You and me both!
cut height is WAY too high - best results use 1.7mm and pierce height 3mm
I will experiment but I’m using the recommended settings for this plasma cutter at the moment.
Have you tried the cut height at 1.5mm
Not yet, I’m still working with the book setting for the plasma cutter. Im sure i will get to try it!
It will get easier.
For sure
That’s really cool. Gary fired it up. Can’t wait.
I look forward to the demo.
Ralph's looking good. So does the cart! Can't wait to see you fire it up.
splendid!
can't wait for it in action!!!!!
looking forward to seeing it working.
A very nice bit of kit. Frank
I haven't watched for quite some time. Definitely like your new shop set up. With the gear you have, are you moving away from shoeing horses?
You need to recap on my videos, I gave up shoeing a couple of years back when I had major shoulder surgery. Wish I had done it years ago!
@@garyhuston It's a tough job. I knew an old school farrier. Lower back shot from being stooped over and lifting legs. Plus a couple of detached retinas after being kicked in the head a couple of times. Anyway, looking forward to your new content. Cheers.
Very nice Gary, well done.
It looks functional, I was told if I purchase this in the states to go ahead and get braided lines and upgrade the gauges. My question is there a follow up video and were you successful using just one burner without damaging the others i.e., backdraft?
No, I have only used it successfully with all burners alight. The gas flow keeps everything cool. If I don't need the length I use my swan forge.
Now do you remember
Remember what?
😳 I definitely thought it was going to be a Fox video. Surprise
😁
Nice work Which axis hub and bearings are you using.
Unfortunately I don’t know as they were already attached to the parts I bought on eBay
@@garyhuston Thanks
Very cool, Gary. Do you live in a rural area ?
I don’t feel it’s particularly rural as we are about ½ a mile from the town centre but about the same to acres of farmland!
Critters!
And feisty, but especially the N American badger. They'll take on a bear and often succeed in chasing it off.
Yes, the ones here have a ferociously powerful jaw and can be very viscous, but they are good lookers!
only digging foragers we have around here are skunks and armadillos, those things are huge!
very Nice
Thanks
Chalk your file when new it will help from getting gaulds
gute idee mit dem plastiksack und dem 2k kleber - sehr dut
I don't know why I'm watching this but it satisfies me.
If it’s ever too tight, I found using a little lube goes a long way. Normally get you decide in there so you can move in and out quite easily.
Great looking feet and great job! Your a talented Ferrier sir!
Thank you kindly
omg i'm dizzy
bad you for trimming the frog like that
Why, what do you know that I don’t?
@@garyhuston it's an extension of the heart...it pushes blood back up the leg.
@@morgancalvi6675 I know that, that’s 101, but what is your point?
Can you please tell me where to get that handbrake lever kit from? Thanks
It wasn’t a kit as such, I just got the hand brake from a scrap yard and made the other bits needed. It’s not a difficult job.
Hey Gary. Awesome video and modifications. I have looked at a ton of videos. Looking to save some time now and get it done. Do you have plans for this power hammer available for purchase?
I used the Clay Spencer plans for the majority of the build and just modified the head myself so don’t have any plans for that bit but it’s pretty easy.
Thanks
I use on and get razor sharp, mirror finishes on most knives. Also, keep a little spray bottle of water handy for when the stone drys out.
When is the best time then to harvest them to make jam ???
Just before they are fully ripe.
Not many young blokes theses days know to put the wheel under the car for safety reasons. I shutter when I see a young bloke working on his brakes or changing wheel bearings and they are under there vehicle full body or legs and they dont put a wheel under the chassis. If the jack stan or jack fails , I would hate to see the damage.
Not many young blokes today would know how to change a wheel let alone do brakes or bearings! They only just manage to drive!🤣🤣
Typical Land Rover quality and care. We know this part fails and can cause death to the occupants and others but we will did put an a bit of steel plate on, that may stop the axle to completely destroy itself. What a waste of money their vehicle are, not to mention the people that still buy them because it’s a “Land Rover”😅😅.
So the issue is housing failure, which the remedy doesn't actually prevent; it just limits how catastrophic the result is. Since the defect is still present, is LR still on the hook if (when) the failure _does_ occur? Seems to me they owe you a new axle assembly, Gary.
LOL, well I'm certainly not going to waste my time asking them!
Ha! I have the exact same kind of mask, and have had it for over 20 years. What rods are you using? E6013, E6010 or E7018?
As it says during the video, 7018
Gary, Nice repair. I sure don’t weld properly and wouldn’t trust my repair in that situation. You usually mostly mig weld. Any particular reason to use arc welding in this case? Best regards Frank (Virginia)
Several reasons, one is welding with mig outside is generally difficult as any wind blows away your gas and ruins the weld, the gun is also a bit big to try and get in between the steering components and lastly, the rods I used are good and strong for just this sort of application.
you axcel at welding Gary................
They don’t get any better do they!🤣🤣
